Sensor Dynamics: F-Log vs F-Log2
The introduction of F-Log2 transformed Fuji mirrorless into true cinema cameras, pushing dynamic range beyond 14 stops. But watch out for the Base ISO shift.
Stop Mapping (Middle Grey 18%)
■ F-Log (Base ISO 640)
The original curve. Records about 12.5 - 13 stops of dynamic range. Has punchier, cleaner shadows, but clips highlights much earlier. Easier to grade on 8-bit or quick turnaround projects.
▶ F-Log2 (Base ISO 1250)
Leverages the 14-bit ADC of the sensor. Raises Base ISO to 1250 to massively protect highlights (+2 stops vs F-Log). The signal is much flatter (ARRI-style) and requires dedicated LUTs, but offers immense latitude.
Data Workflow: Internal Recording
The X-H2S and GFX 100 II series allow internal Apple ProRes recording to CFexpress cards, eliminating the need for external monitors (Ninja V).

10-Bit All-Intra | ~850 MbpsThe magic balance. You get the benefits of fast decoding but cut file sizes in half. The visual difference from the HQ model is imperceptible on the web.
H.265 All-Intra
10-Bit 4:2:2 | 360 / 720 MbpsUltra-high efficiency. Very light files that preserve all color information. Requires a powerful computer for decoding or proxy creation.

Build the image before a new camera becomes a shortcut
A Fujifilm ETERNA production should begin with a visual test, not with the assumption that a camera name or film-inspired profile will create the final aesthetic. Test the intended lenses, filtration, wardrobe and makeup under the actual key sources, then compare a wide silhouette, medium movement shot and close beauty frame. On a larger-format platform, lens coverage and working distance affect perspective and focus demands as much as nominal focal length. The focus team and operator should review movement at realistic speed, while the creative team evaluates whether the result supports the collection rather than simply looking different from another camera.
The look must also survive real production conditions. Include saturated textiles, black tailoring, pale fabric, metallic accessories and mixed practical lighting in the test. Choose exposure and white balance from those materials, and record the decisions so different shooting days can reproduce them. If a film-simulation-based viewing option is used, identify it clearly as part of monitoring and compare it with a neutral technical transform. Avoid allowing a display look to conceal clipped colour channels, inconsistent skin or unwanted shifts between fixtures. The purpose of prep is to separate a useful creative direction from effects that become difficult to control later.
Post-production should receive an explicit pipeline: recording settings, colour-management choice, viewing references, proxy specifications and relink procedure. Save representative test frames and make them available to editorial and the colourist alongside the camera report. When the project combines ETERNA with another body, create the match under identical lighting and judge both sources within the same timeline. Matching does not require erasing every difference; it requires deciding which differences belong to the film. With that agreement in place, colour grading can refine texture and palette while maintaining continuity across hero edits, vertical versions and shorter branded assets.
Before the shoot closes, keep one compact handoff package with the approved framing references, camera and lens list, recording settings, monitoring transform, colour-temperature strategy, filtration notes, media report and two or three representative stills. Editorial should receive proxies whose filenames and timecode preserve a direct route back to the source media. The colourist should receive the same viewing reference used on set together with notes for intentional exposure changes. This is also the moment to identify which shots must support horizontal, square and vertical versions, rather than discovering the constraint after the cut is locked. A clear handoff is less visible than a new camera feature, but it protects more of the photographed intent across review, conform, grade and final delivery.
